Detective Alec Hardy (Tennant) is brought in as the new lead detective in Broadchurch, must to the dismay of his new partner Ellie Miller, who expected the promotion for herself.
They soon have to work together, as a murder has occurred in the sleepy, coastal town.
The number of secrets from townspeople’s pasts begin to add up, and nothing is quite what it seems. Including the murder itself.
Why It Was So Good:
While not a science fiction show like Doctor Who, it does star perhaps its most famous player. Broadchurch is one of those few and far between procedurals that relies heavily on solid writing and mystery. The cast didn’t even know who the murderer was throughout most of filming and scripts were kept extremely close to the vest.
Created by Chris Chibnall, the overall feel of the show and the response from viewers have been overwhelmingly positive. Need another connection to the Who-niverse? Chibnall is taking over for Steven Moffat as showrunner when the Doctor returns in 2018.
Two series have been produced up to this point and series three is set to premiere (at least in Britain) in February 2017.
